Last week, Apple presentedtwo new MacBook Airswith waist reinforcements. The main one being of course the integration of the latest Apple Silicon M3 chip, which offersmore performance and better graphics. Other improvements include better connectivity withsupport for Wi-Fi 6E, or support for two external monitors.
A significant development was also spotted a little later, by the user McFadden on [X].This is not mentionedin the technical characteristics of the MacBook, but it still plays an important role in terms of performance.
Two 128 GB SSDs, instead of one
On the MacBook Air M2, the basic version which offers 256 GB is only equipped witha single SSD, who has to do everything. This constituteda regression compared to the M1 256 GB, which for its part benefited from storage distributed over two 128 GB SSDs. It was therefore noted that lower data transfer speeds were observed on the MacBook Air M2s than on the others.
After disassembling his new Apple toy, McFadden realized that Cupertino had chosen to return to its basic configuration, which offers better performance. Users wishing to opt for the 256GB version now no longer have to fear being shortchanged in this regard. The MacBook Air M3 256 GB does offer two 128 GB SSDs.
No OLED or 120 Hz
As a reminder, the MacBook Air M3s still do not have the right to OLED like on iPhone, nor to Apple's ProMotion technology. The latter is available on the iPhone Pro and MacBook Pro, and offers a screen refresh rate of 120 Hz. It is also possible that the iPad Pro M2 2024 will benefit from these two technologies, according to the rumors circulating.Apple should present them soon.
