No need to pay for your VPN on iOS: thank you Opera

Updated April 13: The VPN feature described here is being rolled out little by little around the world. You can't necessarily take advantage of it right away.

Although the feature was initially tested in the background for only a few users, everyone can now benefit from it. Opera's free VPN, natively integrated into the eponymous browser, isnow available to the general public on iOS. Simply download the app from the App Store to try it. And by synchronizing their data with alternative clients, for example for Android or Windows, users can continue to protect themselves online with other devices.

As a reminder, a VPN is a solution that reroutes your IP address through a network made up of different successive access points. This allows you to better “hide” your contact details, so as to reduce the chances of being tracked by advertisers, or even malicious Internet users such as pirates. But the tool is also practical, because it is recognizedthe ability to unblock content not accessible in certain countries.

Why use a VPN?

Indeed, depending on your VPN, it is sometimes possible to choose from which country you wish to connect to the web. And this is what the tool available on the Opera browser for iOS offers. In this way, it is then easy to virtually geolocate in a country where the prices of certain online stores are more affordable, to order less under this cover.

The iPhone has already had its own VPN for a while now, however it is not as powerful and mainly aims to protect the personal data of mobile users by limiting tracking. Apple, on the other hand, has recently offered a more advanced version, but which requires subscribing to aiCloud+ planfor a few euros per year.
