Test of Oso Smart Touch magnetic iPhone car holders

After tests in real road situations, here are the details and our opinion
on these two accessories:

The two supports are each delivered in a very small cardboard box
in which there is also a small manual, a small sheet
sticker and two metal plates, one round and small, the other
rectangular and larger.

Two cases can in fact arise: either the iPhone has a
protective shell, or not.

With a shell, Oso recommends using the large plate,
to attach to the back of the iPhone by first placing, between the plate and the back of
the iPhone, the little adhesive sheet.

Here's what it looks like with the iPhone covered in its shell slightly
transparent:

Without shell, simply stick the small round plate to the
two from the iPhone.

As you will have noted, this means that to use magnetic media,
it's necessaryadd a metal plate to the back of the iPhone, ce
which will not necessarily please everyone, especially in cases where the
preference goes to a bare iPhone. In this case, the plate on the back is fine
visible, not to mention the adhesive plastic.

We can imagine that solutions consisting of integrating the plate into a
shell without sticking it to the iPhone must be possible, but this then depends
more DIY.

Beyond these constraints, this type of solution offers a major point
positive: fixing to the supportis done very easily and very
quickly! Let's see this in detail:

Support Oso Smart Touch

Concerning the classic Smart Touch, it is attached by suction cup to the windshield
of the car. The sticker on the suction cup must be removed before installation. There
suction cup, when first used, is covered with a sticky product
who willmake it easier to hold on to the glass. A lever serves the purpose
suction on the glass.

The support holds extremely well for its first installation. Regarding the
following poses, Oso indicates that it is better to wash the suction cup in hot water
and let it dry to avoid dust. After doing this, the
supportstill holds very well on the glass.

Once in place, simply approach the modified iPhone so that it
attaches to the support by magnetism.

Support Oso Smart Touch Air

The Smart Touch Air model attaches to aventilation grille
in the passenger compartment. So maybe this is a system meant to be
universal, the fact remains that in the test car, the grilles
vents can turn in all directions, preventing support
to stand up straight, so pay attention to this before purchasing the Air model.

To fix it, there's nothing rocket science, it's a matter ofof a system of
spring jawswhich is fixed on one of the ventilation blades.
It tightens,rather strong, and on our side, the grid
plastic ventilation seemed to hold up well.

As with the classic model, the iPhone attaches magnetically, it
just bring it closer to the support so that it holds on its own.

Fixing by magnetism: a (false) good idea?

In fact, the supports are ratherwell built, they look
solid, to last over time. But even if the idea of magnetism is
good, because it allowsa practical and quick hookand, sans
common with other styles of jaw holder for example. We pose and
takes the iPhone back without even thinking about it!

But it followsdifferent disadvantages:

Aesthetic side, having to stick a metal plate to the back of the iPhone
is not necessarily pleasant, the ideal solution is to place the plate between
the case and back of the iPhone to make it invisible.

Unless the shell is too thick. With certain protection models,

Hybrid), the iPhone used (model 6 Plus), the iPhone 6 Plus used requires
hardly on one or the other of the supports.

It is therefore necessary to favorthin shells(or none) with
the largest and heavy phones, or stick the plate
directly on the rear of the hull.

Except in the case where the large phone + thick shell combo results in a
weight too heavy for the supports. It really wasn't reassuring to see
the iPhone 6 Plus barely fits on its holder in the car, it is
in fact fell several times while trying to unlock it.

In the end, these supports are of quality, the magnetism solution is in
ideal conditions a very good idea. But it is precisely necessary
combine different conditionsforenjoy a
maximum. It will therefore be suitable for a smartphone that is neither too large nor too
heavy, otherwise you risk seeing it fall from its support at the slightest
handling or the slightest shock.
