What's new in iOS 13 on iPhone and iPad
- Arrival of the so-called “Dark Mode” display: here is a function that iPhone and iPad users have been waiting for for a while. This dark mode is already available on macOS Mojave. It would allow you to read at night without disturbing, but also on iPhone with OLED screen, to save battery (the black pixels remaining off with this screen technology). - Added a new “Night” mode: this would be the combination of “Do not disturb” modes, the Sleep function and “Dark” mode

- Additions in the Mail app: the app would integrate a new functionalityautomatic organization of emailsby categories, purchases, travel, advertising, etc., but also a new list for everything that is “to read later“
- Adding a “Swype” keyboard: according to rumors, iOS 13 would offer a keyboard with writing by sliding your finger over the keys, similar to what other third-party keyboards already offer on iOS (includingGboard)
- Collaboration enriched: iOS 13 should improve multi-party collaboration on Pages, Numbers and Keynote documents
- Fonctions “Undo-redo”: iOS 13 would bring support for “undo” and “redo” functions. To cancel the last action performed or redo it, for example when writing an email. To do this, you would have to slide three fingers on the screen, to the left or right (currently, cancel already exists, you have to shake the machine)
- Screenshot enriched: changes to the display of tools after a screenshot should arrive with iOS 13. In addition to the background with a blurred appearance (currently it is gray in iOS 12), new tools are offered with a slightly different for existing ones
- My Friends and Find My iPhone unified:the “My friends” and “Find my iPhone” apps are unified into a single application called “Find My”
- Improved health app: addition of a menstruation cycle tracking function, similar to third-party apps like Flo
- Improvements to the Apple Books app: added a reward system to encourage reading
- More powerful Siri: Siri should allow you to perform more actions in third-party apps. These include playback controls, search, voice calls, opening attachments, train travel, plane travel, airport gate information and seat reservations.
- Opening NFC: new possibilities offered to developers in terms of reading the NFC chip of iOS devices
iOS 13 should be particularly rich in new features intended foriPad:
- Improved multitasking: the same app could finally display several windows on the screen at the same time. The user should be able to drag these windows on the fly, to detach them from the display and even see them stack up to have the possibility to close them all with a swipe of the finger
- Safari: the desktop version of sites visited on iPad would take priority over the mobile version, unlike Safari on iPhone. This is to avoid certain display errors sometimes encountered on mobile version sites.
- Richer USB connectivity: on iPad Pro, iOS 13 could extend the USB port to storage media, such as USB keys. Perhaps also, compatibility with USB input devices, such as mouse and keyboard
- New home screen

- Import photos from third-party storage without using the Photos app
- Notes document scanner feature that developers can integrate into their own app
- Design change for volume change signaling
- Better integration of printing options in applications
- Better analysis capacity of Siri and in particular of the “Hey Siri” command to reduce unwanted activations of the assistant
- Improved support for multi-language tool on keyboard and dictation function
- New Animojis
- Improvements for Carplay
What's new for the Apple Watch with watchOS 6
- An App Store for the Apple Watch: Apple should add adedicated appto allow you to download Apple Watch apps without needing the iPhone. This could be accompanied, for developers, by the possibility of offering “Watch only” apps whereas today, any Watch app must be delivered with an iPhone app (sometimes unnecessary!)
- Dictaphone: the iOS app also arrives on the Apple Watch
- Livres audios: the Books app on the watch will allowlistening to audio books
- New Calculator app: to perform calculations quickly from the wrist
- Two new health functions: one to remind you not to forget totake your medicine, and another for themenstrual cycle tracking
- New complicationswhich would allow information to be added to the dials. There would be one that would show theprogression in an audiobook, another for thehearing aid battery levelconnected, one which displays thesound level of ambient noise, and one which would showrain data.
- Several new dials anticipated: including a “Gradient” dial which displays a gradient of a color selected by the user. We can also mention two other dials “X-Large” and “California”. The first offers a display with large numbers. The second is a dial with a classic watch display featuring Roman and Arabic numerals. In addition, a “Solar” dial would be redesigned to resemble asundial. Finally there would also be another one inspired by the “Infograph” dial, but withgreater complications, for example to display stock market or weather information
And on the hardware side?
The developers conference is not Apple's preferred opportunity for new product releases. However, here are the new hardware features expected from Apple:
- Mac Pro: here is perhaps the most anticipated office machine of the moment from Apple. The Mac Pro hasn't been updated in several years. Apple even announced that it was working on a new version of the computer some time ago.See this article for more details
