If iOS and iPadOS 16 offer a good deallot of new items, the new major versions of other Apple operating systems are not left out, including tvOS and the software for HomePod speakers and CarPlay. Here are the changes to discover on tvOS, HomePod and CarPlay in 2022.
tvOS 16: what’s new?
First of all, note that the new tvOS 16 version of the Apple TV software is compatible with the following boxes: Apple TV HD, Apple TV 4K and more recent Apple TV.
If you have one of these Apple TV box models, here are the new features you can enjoy with tvOS 16, to be released in fall 2022:
- Advanced support for console controllers:Just like iOS 16 and iPadOS 16, tvOS 16 supports Nintendo Switch Joy-Con and Ninento Pro-Controller controllers. For Joy-Con, it is possible to play with one or both controllers
- Support HDR 10+:HDR, 10 + is a new generation video technology with improved dynamics. It is available on tvOS 16
- Preview improve in Apple TV+:new video previews are available in the Apple TV+ app
- HomeKit Matters:like iOS 16 and iPadOS 16, tvOS 16 supports the new home automation standard, Matter, supported by Apple and other tech giants
- Motivations Fitness+ :During exercises, the app can motivate users with new alerts
- New iPhone 16 remote control app:since iOS 16, by launching the Apple TV remote control, this opens a new remote control app for Apple TV
- Family sharing:family members are offered as “user” from the control center
- New time settings:ability to choose between 24 hour or 12 hour setting for Apple TV time
- Managing multiple users:third-party developers can have access to an independent profile of each user. With this, the idea for each user, when they load their profile, to have access to their own settings of their services and their own game saves
- Connectivity between Apple devices:developers are taking advantage of new ways to make iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch and Apple TV applications communicate, with the idea of improving the tvOS experience. For example, data captured by the Apple Watch can be used on tvOS to improve tracking during a sporting exercise
- Support for the new Metal 3:Metal 3 is the new technology used by the new Mac OS and Apple TV in particular, to underpin even more graphically beautiful games

- Payment at a gas station:From the CarPlay dashboard, you can pay for your just-finished fill-up at gas stations that support the functionality.More details to see here
- Podcasts :new “Library” section allowing you to easily find saved podcasts
- Two new types of applications supported:Before CarPlayOS 16, compatible applications were audio or navigation. From now on, they can also be of the “driving assistance and “refueling” type.

What about HomePod?
- HomePodOS and beta testing:it will be possible for the first time to participate in the beta test of Apple's HomePod software
