After an unjustified refusal, Apple must approve this App Store competitor

Following the implementation of the Digital Market Act by the European Union, Apple must accept third-party application stores in iOS. The measure was introducedin March, in iOS 17.4in order to comply with the requirements of commissioners Thierry Breton andMargaret Vestager.

The first competitor to the App Store to have legally emerged in iOS 17.4 is the AltStore Pal, which counts100 000 installationsafter two months of activities. A new player now wants to join the party, but it is likely that his arrival will not go smoothly. If the AltStore Pal was able to quickly integrate iOS without too many difficulties, nor too many obstacles on the part of Apple, it is because the shortfall is not enormous for the firm. Apple refuses without reasons, then accepts

While Epic Games has submitted a formal request to Apple,the Apple firm would have directly rejected the request to open the Epic Games Store. Apple seems to have kept a good old reflex from before DMA with this refusal, since it is totally unjustified. However, it didn't last very long.

After Epic Games complained aboutan “arbitrary, obstructive and contrary” rejection, Apple quickly reversed its decision. It must be taken into account in this matter that the two companies have been in a relentless fight for years, in particular because of the commissions that Apple charges on purchases in the App Store.
