Apple would have slightly modified the internal design of the MacBook Pro to avoid a problem linked to a very short cable

Since the 2016 models, the MacBook Pro has been the victim of several design problems, the best known of which is that of the “butterfly” keyboard. This well-known concern even pushed Apple to launcha free repair programvalid for several years.

At the end of January, we talked abouta new problem with recent MacBook Prosfrom those of 2016. Some users of these MacBook Pros complain of “light streaks” at the bottom of the screen. These would be caused by the use of cables that are too short, except perhapsin 2018 models.

As a reminder, some users are experiencing a problem with “light streaks” at the bottom of their screen. This is a symptom of a damaged cable inside the MacBook Pro.

The cause would be Apple's use in these machines of cables that are too short and thin to connect the screen to a controller located below the Touch Bar. Whereas in older MacBook Pros, Apple used thicker and more durable cables.

Apple product disassembly and repair specialists from iFixit have looked into the matter. They observeda slight design changein theMacBook Pro de 2018, to avoid a cable wear problem.

It appears more precisely that the cable in question is2 mm plus longin the 2018 models, compared to that used in the 2016 and 2017 models. This should help reduce the strain on this cable as the screen is open.

It remains to be seen whether this will allow these more recent machines to completely avoid the problem or delay its arrival for certain users.

However, it appears that this problem affects a small number of users and we hope that it will not get worse over time.
