iOS 16: many users already regret iOS 15, do you?

iOS 16 has been available for several weeks now. We haveexplained in our columnshow to update your machine, but alsowhat's newwhat the new major version of the software for iPhone contains.

And there are many in the program, more than 100. Among these, we can cite the new possibilities for customizing the locked screen, or the new notification system, without forgetting the new notifications for copying it/ paste or the automatic clipping of objects in photos, without forgetting the various improvements concerning Siri.

Enough to push users to upgrade their iPhone to iOS 16 without thinking too much. Hewould seem preciselyon this subject that the adoption rate of iOS 16 in the days following the release of the update is one of the best historically for a new iPhone OS.

But, if all this suggests a sweet scent of success for Apple, in reality, the situation seemsclose to the Bérézina, for some users anyway. Indeed, many major bugs occurring following the update to iOS 16 seem quite frequent, according to the feedback seen from our American and French colleagues, and on social networks. In addition, autonomy would take a hit when going from iOS 15 to iOS 16. Let's take stock.

Mail, Spotlight, flickering screen, and what not?

For now, here is the list of problems that affect a large part of users under iOS 16, iOS 16.0.1 and iOS 16.0.2, the latter being the most recent version of the system available to everyone to date:

  • Spotlight Search extremely slow or sometimes dysfunctional
  • Sound problem for calls made via CarPlay
  • Screen flickering when brightness is low

  • Security flaw allowing an email to crash your Mail application simply by injecting certain characters into the sender's address (a process called “Mailjack”)

Other issues that appeared with iOS 16 appear to have already been fixed by iOS 16.0.2,as seen there, including a bug causing a shaking effect on photographs taken with the iPhone 14 Pro or even onetoo high frequency of appearancerequests for copy/paste permission. For this last problem,iOS 16.1expected for the month of October should further improve the situation.

But beyond these bugs which are just waiting to be corrected, there is a much more annoying problem which affects iOS 16,that of the autonomous.

iOS 16 and reduced battery life, what's going on?

According to my personal experience, it is clear, iOS 16 hasclearly impacted the autonomy of my iPhone XS. If before iOS 16, I could last a day, from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., on a single charge, with iOS 16, I have to recharge the machine from the beginning of the afternoon. However, the battery does not seem in worse health now than a month ago: it is still around 82-83% maximum capacity (seeSettings > Battery > Battery status and charging).Additionally, between iOS 15 and iOS 16, my iPhone usage hasn't really changed to the point of reducing battery life that much...

Precisely, we want to collect some figures on this subject to support the hypothesis of a drop in autonomy occurring with iOS 16. It is therefore for these purposes thatwe are launching this survey, for which we invite you to respond:
