iOS 13.5, iPadOS 13.5, macOS 10.15.5, watchOS 6.2.5: what’s new

Version 13.5 of iOS and iPad is availablefor a week now, just like watchOS 6.2.5. For macOS it took a little longer to reach, since version 10.15.5 has only been available sincethe day before yesterday. But now that these 3 OS are up to date for everyone, it's time to list all the changes they bring.

Security

  • Face ID :iOS can automatically detect the wearing of a surgical mask. In this case, the unlock code is offered more quickly without the user having to waste time trying to unlock using Face ID. This is valid for unlocking the iPhone, but also for paying with Apple Pay, downloading apps from the App Store or purchasing content on iTunes and Apple Books

As pointed out by@Sonikku_a2, if you’re wearing a mask, iOS 13.5 goes straight to the passcode screen if you try to unlock with Face ID (keypad not shown because iOS hides it in screen recordings)pic.twitter.com/bQCzu5u20p

Health

  • New COVID-19 Exposure Notifications API:a new coronavirus exposure tracking feature has been implemented in iOS, as seenicietTo be. It allows third-party apps to take advantage of it to track the population in an effort to contain the pandemic. In France, no app benefits from this to date. The country's government is developing its own solution not using this API
