Apple's new trick to make the iPhone even more secure

To stand out from the competition, Apple has made confidentiality one of its specialties. And recently, the firm would have discreetly deployed a change to the operation of the iPhone which makes it even more secure than it already was. In essence, many news articles talk about a new feature that would automatically restart the iPhone after a certain period of inactivity. But why?

After rebooting, the device would enter an ultra-secure mode called “Before First Unlock”. And this state would limit the scope of the tools used to extract data from locked iPhones. On the other hand, this new iPhone would make the work of the police more complicated, as part of their investigations. This is because if an iPhone restarts, it will be more difficult for law enforcement to extract information from that device.

A restart after 4 days?

Since Apple has not made an official announcement, caution is still advised. But in any case, the TechCrunch site relays, in an article, a publication from 404 Media which indicates that the update would already concern the police in the United States. 404 Media mentions a document written by police officers in Detroit (Michigan) which describes this new functionality of the iPhone.

An expert cited by TechCrunch estimates that the iPhone could restart automatically if it is locked for 4 days. In other words, while the new feature can make the iPhone more secure, it shouldn't affect everyday use of the device. Many publications indicate that this new feature would have arrived with the updateiOS 18.1which, in the United States, also brought the first iPhone features related toApple Intelligence.
