When AirTags help uncover a scandal

Mexican journalist Pamela Cerdeira has just used Apple AirTags in an original way to say the least. She actually published a video on YouTube showing how these accessories allowed her to uncover a scandal.

Concretely, she was able to demonstrate that donations made to Mexico to help the victims of the terrible earthquakes that occurred last spring in Türkiye did not reach their recipients.

In detail, the journalist donated a bag of rice and a packet of toilet paper to Mexican donation centers. Beforehand, she had taken care to place an AirTag in each of them.

Using the Find My app, she was then able to track these items. And there, surprise, these were in no case delivered to Türkiye. They were both sent to Mexico City.

Smart use of AirTags

It is difficult to know whether these are just isolated cases or a large-scale scandal of misappropriation of donations. Government officials have promised to investigate to shed light on this matter. The journalist shows in any case that AirTags can be used for uses that had clearly not been imagined by its designers.

Unfortunately, it happens that these trackers are used for much less legitimate purposes, or even completely illegal ones. This is true of the various cases of harassment that have been reported in recent years. Moreover, the Attorney General of New York, Letitia James recentlyissued a warning noticeto the attention of consumers to warn them of the risks associated with improper use of these accessories.
