Test: the iPhone 5 “Mili Power Angel 2” battery with integrated USB cable receives the “recommended by iPhon.fr” label

For long
working days, nature outings and other long periods
to use the iPhone or iPod touch, it is necessary to have
of aadditional battery reserve, in case
!

For these situations, we have already been able to test several solutions adapted to the
new lightning socket for the iPhone 5 or iPod touchin these
articles
.

We were particularly attracted bythe
Mili shell which cleverly used the now compact size of the
lightning jack and flexible cable
. Today, still at Mili, this
is not a battery case butan external batteryhas
take with you, offering no less than2200 mAh reserve,
compact size andintegrated USB cable, to which we are going
be interested.

Onward for the discovery, in images, knowing that all the same, we
the announcement this battery receives the (rare) label “Recommended by
iPhon.fr" :

Premier contact

The battery comes in a very compact form, with slightly
rounded, it is available in two colors: white or black
bright.

It has a transparent blue cover on top, its opening reveals
a male “Lightning” plug which will plug into the iPhone/iPod
touch.

The opening also allows access toa cable with a plug
USB
, it is used to recharge the battery. The socket is taken out and stored away
very easily, remaining well stuck inside when not
used.

At the back of the case,a retractable footcan be
unfold, it is intended to serve as a support, when the battery is connected
and the iPhone is used in landscape format, for example to watch a
video.

The battery is recharged by plugging the USB cable of your choice into a
computer or on the transformer supplied with the iPhone, there is none
delivered with the battery. This one has a2200 mAh capacity, has
compare to the 1450 mAh of the iPhone 5 battery (we will see its
performances).

It recharges in approximately 3 hours and it is possible to follow
the progress of the recharge thanks to the 4 LEDs which display the level by
25% increments. A side button allows, when pressed, to know
also the level of charge remaining in the battery, even if it is not
plugged in. We repeat it during each test, this is essential, avoid any
battery which would not offer it, even if they are rare.

When the time comes to give your iPhone a boost, the
connection to the iPhone is very simple and thanks to the specificity of the port
lightning can be done in any direction. The battery was able to
charge an iPhone with 5% charge to 100% in just over
2h.

More precisely, here is the charging time, the battery level of
iPhone and remaining battery (iPhone is plugged in, connected to the network
telephone and wifi, but not used during charging):

  • startup: iPhone charge: 5%
  • after 5 minutes: the iPhone reaches 10% battery
  • after 15 minutes: 20%
  • after 25 mins: 30%
  • after 45 minutes: the iPhone is charged at 50% – the level changes to 3 LEDs
    on 4 battery side
  • after 1 hour: 62%
  • after 1h30: 85% – 2 out of 4 LEDs now displayed on the
    battery
  • after 2h10: the iPhone reaches 100%, the battery displays 2 LEDs / 4 in
    remaining charge term.
  • then a recharge of around 8% was possible.

In the end, the 2200 mAh battery therefore ensuresexactly one
full charge of iPhone
, no more, no less, but it is already
very appreciable and above all, we cangive a boost to
smartphone quite quickly
when needed. To respond to
comments questions, once charged, the battery retained its charge
at least 2 weeks, we did not test longer due to lack of time.

Of course, using the iPhone while it's charging becomes less
easy, the whole becoming very elongated, nevertheless, it remains possible and the
battery holds well in place. On the other hand, care must be taken not to twist
the whole or press on the connected battery so as not to force the
connexion.

In terms of use, it is thereall the difference with a shell
battery
as
the one tested there
: External batteries like this one are easier to
carry, compact in the pocket, but less practical when recharging
(and you have to remember to take them with you!). There is something for everyone
tastes!

For use when traveling, to watch a video, the foot
retractable does its job well and allows you to rest your arms:

When it comes to the few drawbacks, we might want to be nitpicky
note thatthe bluish cover which does not remain attached to the battery,
can be easily misplaced
during its use and that the addicts
cleanliness will note a tendency of the black hull to attract traces of
finger with its shiny appearance. That's all and it's very thin as
flaws!

Conclusion

With its appearancecompact, in
slightly rounded shape and thesubstantial capacityof this
battery, we have at our disposal areal energy bottle
portable
, easy to carry in a pocket. In addition to the important label
“Made for iPhone” which guarantees the sustainability of the investment in the face of
iOS changes, it also includesa USB cableavoiding
to carry around an additional cable as is particularly the case with
battery cases. The little trick of adding a foot could also prove
interesting during certain uses. In the end, a solution that we have
appreciated to whichwe grant the (rare) label without any problem
"recommended by iPhon.fr"
.
