The 2024 Worldwide Developer Conference will take place tonight and like every year for a while now at the Steve Jobs Theater. The meeting is set for 7:00 p.m., you can already join uson the special WWDC24 Keynote Liveblog.
During the presentation, we should undoubtedly discover the new major version of iOS and significant design changes. We also assume that this key date will be the opportunity to discover macOS 15 and its suffix.Other new software features are also availabletwandering, especially for tvOS.
Today, however, we will not return to these rumors. Instead, we have chosen here to highlight Apple announcements that are long overdue, or which simply will not be confirmed in the coming weeks. Here we go.
1 – Apple Car: still not
Let's start with what is perhaps the most major news of recent months at Apple: the abandonment of its autonomous car project. This has never been made official by the manufacturer, but could have allowed us to discover a minivan with a design close to the Fiat Multipla. More than ten billion dollars would have been involved in the creation of the vehicle, supposedly100% electric.
Obviously, the Apple Car is no longer one of the American company's priorities and we will not see it either during WWDC or afterwards. More than six hundred employees dedicated to this confidential automobile program were even thanked by the manufacturer. Note, however, that the majority have been transferred to other departments, including that dedicated to artificial intelligence. And besides, new AI features are greatly anticipated with iOS 18at the Worldwide Developer Conference.
2 – iOS 18: new features, yes, but not this one
Recently, still regarding the new operating system for iPhone, you may have seen the following interface on the web for the iOS 18 Camera app:

Bad news: this model would ultimately not be proven. This is the siteMacRumorswho relayed it last month, explaining that he had received the image from an anonymous source. In general, this media is quite reliable. However, as the latter explained by updating his dedicated article, the photo supposedly coming from an Apple engineer would be a fake.
Is this proof of an informant's lie? Hard to believe, becauseMacRumorsprobably shared the folder after verifying its origin. On the other hand, we know since the major leaks suffered by iOS 14 thatApple sometimes releases false datato try to find out who spilled the beans among his teams. Those responsible may then be dismissed, or even prosecuted for violating their confidentiality agreement.
3 – MacBook Pro OLED : patience
OLED iPad Pros and OLED MacBook Pros have been in the works for several quarters now. If the first have every chance of arriving during April, this is not the case for the second whose release date would thus be pushed back to2027. To be sure, you just need to base yourself on the predictions of Taiwan's star analyst; namely Ming-Chi Kuo. The latter is very rarely wrong when it comes to guessing the future of Apple products.
What is the advantage of OLED? This technology would consume less energy. But not only that, since as a bonus, equipped devices offer better contrasts and more vibrant colors. The blacks are notably much deeper and closer to reality. This is a boon for imaging professionals, such as video editors or graphic designers.
4 – No folding iPhone yet
Another long-awaited product: the folding iPhone. Here too the device is indeed in the pipeline, according to numerous patents registered by Apple, but also according to leaks signed Mark Gurman (journalist at Bloomberg). For now, however, it seems that the manufacturer is still struggling to design a display where the fold is not visible to the naked eye. However, this is clearly its objective. It is also rumored that an iPad with a folding screen is planned, but still not released for this reason.
If the presentation date of the tablet is still uncertain, that of the folding iPhone could however coincide, like the MacBook Pro OLED,with the calendar for the year 2027. So we will have to wait. The technical sheet is unknown, but by then we should be able to take advantage of the camera under the screen for premium mobiles, according to Ross Young (of Display Supply Chain Consultants). However, Samsung's folding cell phones offer this advantage to provide a better full-screen experience. From there to imagining Apple doing the same, there is only one step…
5 – A new Mac Pro? Not so sure
Mark Gurman said recently, it is likely that this time, we should notnot seeing new Macs arriving. Usually, the Californian firm takes advantage of WWDC to unveil new generations of its computers. Obviously, therefore, this year, we should not rely on such announcements.
Let us still remain cautious with regard to this rumor. Historically, the WWDC launch keynote has always given pride of place to Macs, particularly those labeled Pro. We would therefore not be surprised to see the presentation of new Mac Pros, for example. See also about thisour article on the 4 Mac announcementshighly anticipated for WWDC 2024.
6 – Touch ID under the screen: not before September
Please note that Apple has been developing under-screen fingerprint sensor technology for some time now. This solution already exists under the home button of certain mobiles, such as the third generation iPhone SE. But Apple has abandoned it on high-end iPhones since the arrival of Face ID and its face recognition solution.
Biometric unlocking by fingerprint sensor is not abandoned, however, since we are also entitled to it on the latest iPad Air. The version under the screen, what's more, is not the most difficult to design andhas been available since 2018 on many smartphone models running Android. Among these, we can notably cite the case of the Meizu 16X, the Xiaomi Mi 8 Explorer or even the Huawei Mate RS Porsche Design.

7 – iPhone SE 4: see you in 2025
Another contender for an upcoming announcement: the fourth generation iPhone SE. The latter could have been released this year, but would have ultimately been postponed to 2025. We already know almost all of its potential technical sheet. We would thus be entitled to a brand new design for the SE collection, but already known to lovers of premium iPhones since it would be thesame format as iPhone 14. With a notch at the front.
The fourth generation iPhone SE would thus benefit from a large screen of6.1 inchescompared to 4.7 inches for its predecessor. The fingerprint sensor should disappear here to make way for Face ID, and the Lightning socket would be abandoned in favor of USB-C. As for the processor, it will undoubtedly be the same as that of the iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus.
8 – Apple Glass and connected lenses: obviously not
Finally, let's touch on the hot topic of augmented reality at Apple. You know: the Vision Pro is the first device entirely dedicated to this purpose. A more affordable, lighter and more comfortable (but less powerful) version should arrive in 2027. This should herald the launch of connected glasses, even more pleasant to wear on a daily basis, but without virtual reality this time.
Purpose of the device? Replace your iPhone, thanks to an interface in front of your eyes, superimposed on your environment and necessarily more practical than taking a mobile out of your pocket. In the longer term, Apple would even aim to offer smart lenses with similar advantages. No release date yet, but you might have to wait untilnext decadeto finally see the color.
