The iPhone 11 Pro and 11 Pro Max arrived with the iPhone 11 at the beginning of September 2019. They share some characteristics with the third model not labeled Pro. But precisely, to stand out from the latter, they promise more professional use. But what could this possibly mean? Especially since they are the descendants of last year's iPhone XS and XS Max, which also lack the “Pro” in the name.
We have detailed for you the technical characteristics of the iPhone 11 Pro and 11 Pro Max, in order to see if there is enough to satisfy the needs of professionals. We also do not fail to indicate all the pricing information before concluding with our opinion on the or rather the two machines.

The main features of the iPhone 11 Pro
Design and case: no surprises
The design of the iPhone 11 Pro case doesn't really surprise. It has exactly the same lines as that of the iPhone 11, XR, but also XS and XS Max. It therefore comes in the form of a terminal with rounded corners, 144 x 71.4 x 8.1 mm for the 11 Pro version and 158 x 77.8 x 8.1 mm for the 11 Pro Max version, for a weight of 188 and 226 g respectively. Its dress is made of textured matte glass and stainless steel. The finish is exemplary, as with every Apple product.

On the front, we find the typical notch of the iPhone X/XR/XS/XS Max necessary for Face ID and also present on iPhone 11.
The notable point regarding the aesthetics of the machine is in fact located at the rear of the case, where 3 sensors are positioned in a square shape with blunt corners forming the photo module. This is a major development for the iPhone range. Until then, iPhones only had up to 2 photo sensors.
Note also that the apple logo is now located right in the center of the case at the back, and no longer shifted upwards as on previous models. Finally, IP68 water resistance is guaranteed, corresponding to waterproofing of the case during immersion up to 4 meters deep for a maximum of 30 minutes.

Screen: OLED without 3D Touch
Concerning the screen, the iPhone 11 Pro and 11 Pro Max are each entitled to a Super Retina the 11 Pro model and 2688 x 1242 pixels at 458 ppi for the 11 Pro Max model. The contrast is 2,000,000/1 and the True Tone is there.
On the other hand, as with the iPhone 11, and unlike the XS and XS Max models, no 3D Touch for these iPhones. Haptic Touch is present to compensate for this lack, simulating physical feedback during a long press. Overall, 3D Touch and Haptic Touch allow access to the same shortcuts in iOS.
Processor and RAM
The A13 Bionic processor is the brains of the iPhone 11 Pro and 11 Pro Max, featuring a new 3rd generation Neural Engine. We know the power of Apple Ax chips. This new version should not tarnish the reputation of the Cupertino company in terms of mobile chip design. From generation to generation, Ax chips are in fact ever more efficient, both in terms of calculation capacity and energy management.
For RAM, you need 4 GB on the iPhone 11 Pro and 11 Pro Max, the same amount as on the previous XS and XS Max models.

Autonomy: at the top
According to Apple, the iPhone 11 Pro can last 4 hours longer than the iPhone XS. As for the iPhone 11 Pro Max, it would last up to 5 hours longer than the iPhone XS Max.
Here is an overview of the machine's battery life depending on use: up to 24 hours for the iPhone 11 Pro and 30 hours for the iPhone 11 Pro Max in conversation, up to 18 hours for the iPhone 11 Pro and 20 hours for iPhone 11 Pro Max in video playback, up to 11 hours for iPhone 11 Pro and 12 hours for iPhone 11 Pro Max in video streaming, and up to 65 hours for iPhone 11 Pro and 80 hours for iPhone 11 Pro Max of audio playback.
Wireless charging is available, as is fast wired charging, which allows 50% charging in 30 minutes with the 18 W adapter provided.
Connections
The iPhone 11 Pro and 11 Pro Max feature a Lightning connector, Bluetooth 5.0, and new Wi-Fi 6 802.11ax with MIMO2x2. LTE supports the Gigabit standard. NFC is also included, as well as a new Ultra Wideband chip for new indoor positioning features, among other things. Dual-SIM with eSIM is also present.

The photo and video capabilities of the iPHone 11 Pro and 11 Pro Max
Front camera
On the front, we find a 12 megapixel photo sensor, capable of taking advantage of Smart HDR technology already seen on iPhone XS, in addition to Portrait mode with bokeh effect. In video, the sensor does better than its predecessors, with recording possible in high definition, up to 4K at 24, 30 or 60 fps.
Rear camera
At the rear, this is where the “Pro” label takes on its full meaning. There is a 3-sensor camera. There is a telephoto sensor with f2.0 aperture, a wide-angle sensor with f1.8 aperture and an ultra-wide-angle sensor with f2.4 aperture.
The True Tone Flash, Smart HDR and Portrait Lighting Mode features are complemented by the new Night Mode and new video capabilities, for even more powerful sound and image zooming. The iPhone 11 and 11 Pro Max can additionally take videos quickly from the camera thanks to the new QuickTake feature, also seen on iPhone 11.

Colors and storage: a wide choice
The iPhone 11 Pro is available in two formats, the classic with 5.8 inches of screen diagonal and the Max with 6.5 inches of screen diagonal. For each of the two formats, 4 different colors are offered, space gray, midnight green, silver and gold. Finally, when purchasing you must also choose the storage capacity of your machine: 64 GB, 256 GB or 512 GB.
Price list
The price of the iPhone 11 Pro obviously depends on the format and storage capacity. With 64 GB, the iPhone 11 Pro costs 1,159 euros, with 256 GB, 1,329 euros, and with 512 GB, the device rises to 1,559 euros. For the 11 Pro Max format, it's 100 euros more each time.
Conclusion and opinion
With the iPhone 11 Pro and 11 Pro Max, Apple is hitting hard. On the one hand, they mark great developments compared to the previous XS and XS Max models (see our comparison on this subject), such as Wi-Fi 6, Dolby Atmos support, the Ultra Wideband chip, a better OLED display, a more powerful processor chip and greater battery life (up to 5 hours difference between iPhone XS and iPhone 11 Pro ). On the other hand, the major change regarding the rear camera is really what allows the iPhone 11 Pro to justify this “Pro” label. Because the feedback and opinions on the subject are unanimous. The iPhone 11 Pro is one of the best smartphones on the market in photos, and even more so in video. It would also be the new benchmark in the field of smartphone video shooting.
Thus, iPhone 11 Pro and 11 Pro Max are capable of satisfying all general public use, but also more professional photographers and videographers. In addition, with up to 512 GB of storage, they meet the needs of image professionals recording increasingly large films and images.
