Last January, after the well-known problem with the MacBook Pro butterfly keyboard, we reported a new problem with machines dating from 2016. Namely,a problem with light streaks on the screen, caused by the use of cables that are too thin.
Starting with the 2018 MacBook Pros, Apple hasrevised the designand used longer cables to avoid these light trails. We imagine that allnew machines launched yesterday by Appledon't have these problems. Concerning the 2016 MacBook Pros, Apple has just launched afree repair program for dark streaks.
In addition to the free repair program for the MacBook butterfly keyboard, Apple has just launched a new one forrepair MacBooks affected by dark streaks for freeat the bottom of the screen.
This only concerns theMacBook Pro 2016 in 13-inch version. However, according to iFixit specialists, this problemwould also affect the 15-inch version of the 2016 MacBook Pro. It is therefore not impossible that Apple adds this model to the program.
As a reminder, some users are experiencing a problem with “light streaks” at the bottom of their screen. This is a symptom of a damaged cable inside the MacBook Pro.
The cause would be Apple's use in these machines of cables that are too thin to connect the screen to a controller located below the Touch Bar. Whereas in older MacBook Pros, Apple used thicker and more durable cables.
As you open and close the MacBook Pro, these cables would begin to fatigue, eventually tearing. The first cable to be affected would be the one responsible for the backlight, which would cause these “light trails”.
