Apple Vision Pro becomes Apple Vision in the latest iOS beta

In parallel with Apple's recent announcement concerning the Vision Pro, the Apple firm carried outa change in iOS, concerning the name of its mixed reality headset.

After digging into the code ofiOS 17.3 beta, our colleagues from9to5Macnoticed that“several channels mentioning Apple Vision Pro have been updated with just “Apple Vision” instead”. For example, strings related to the App Store previously said "Mac, iPad, and Apple Vision Pro apps." Now the same string says« Mac, iPad et Apple Vision Apps ».

Obviously, it didn't take much more than that to arouse the curiosity of the web as to what this change could mean. According toFilipe Espositoof9to5Mac,“This shows that Apple wants to be ready when it decides to announce a cheaper version of the Apple Vision Pro”. It's a plausible theory, but the latest information that was recently shared regarding a second Apple mixed reality headset only partially confirms these allegations.

As early as June 2023, the month the headset was announced, the first rumors were already reporting apossible Apple Vision Low cost. MoreMing-Chi Kuorevealed in September that it would however have been abandoned by Cupertino, due to excessively high manufacturing costs. Despite this alleged abandonment, rumors about the existence of a cheaper Vision Pro continued to circulate, particularly when we learnedMacRumorsinformation relating toProject Alaska's Apple.

But while the informants all more or less contradicted themselves, a report fromDigiTimescame to enlighten us, stipulating that,no less than four headsets would be in preparation in Cupertino.

Vision: Apple's new category?

Apple's recent change in the second beta 2 of iOS 17.3 therefore seems to correspond more to the implementation of a new range of products. Especially since on its site, Apple has also changed the Vision Pro category to Vision.

We could therefore expect in the future to have a complete range of Apple Vision headphones with, for example, Plus, Pro, Max, Ultra versions.
