An interview with Tim Cook that went relatively unnoticed when it was released has just resurfaced. In particular, we learn from him that his company is indeed working on augmented reality, which several rumors and patents have already affirmed for a long time. Very recently, we were able to see a document which presentshow a possible AR headset could feature biometric unlocking by face recognition from Face ID.
At the moment, the precise release date of such a device is not known. Nevertheless,a renowned analyst estimates that consumers should only have to wait until the last quarter of 2022 to benefit from it. This is Ming-Chi Kuo, a Taiwanese researcher followed by many investors because he often accurately predicts Apple's future.
Driverless car
When Rich DeMuro of KTLA (channel in Los Angeles) discusses the case of rumors in the corridors concerning supposed “electric cars” in preparation at Apple, Tim Cook retorts without hesitation that his teams are focused on “autonomy“, even though his interlocutor did not precisely pronounce this term. An admission confirming that the Apple Car is indeed on the way? Probably.
This is in any case not the only clue in favor of such a vehicle, since the manufacturer has already been seen in official Californian documents which allow us to know some additional information concerning its fleet currently being tested. According to the latest figures,Cupertino would thus have nearly seventy automobiles for testing.
AI
Finally, note that Tim Cook also explains working on artificial intelligence. The CEO does not detail his plans in this area, but judges that this technology is “coeur” of its activities, just like augmented reality and autonomy.
The interview was recorded for television at the opening of LA's new Apple Store The Grove. This is where customers can buy products like iPhones, Macs and iPads, but also, as Cook points out, take advantage of numerous on-demand services. To date, this sector represents Apple's second largest revenue vector, behind mobiles.
