iPhone 8: new indications from the firmware of the HomePod speaker

End of last week,
Apple “mistakenly” published the HomePod operating system which is a
modified version of iOS 11.0.2, which contains references to the iPhone 8
concerningson
design and its features
.

After spending some time with the HomePod OS, developer Steve
Troughton-Smith made some additional discoveries about the
new screen size,the status bar,
afunction to wake up the iPhoneor even the
fate of Touch ID.

Firstly he didn't see anything in the code that suggested the presence of Touch ID
in the iPhone 8, and so he thinks that the fingerprint sensor
would be absent and replaced by facial recognition, as
Bloomberg newspaper mentioned it a short time ago.

According to Apple's speaker firmware, the iPhone 8 would have a
5.15 inch screenand a resolution of2436 x 1125
pixels
. Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo stated at the start of the year that he
could be a functional area located at the bottom of the screen that would extend
the surface up to 5.8 inches.

The HomePod OS contains references tonew options
sharing or "split" for the status bar
, suggesting that
information would be displayed on both sides in the upper part of
the screen.

According to Steve Troughton-Smith, it “seems much more powerful and complex”
than the current status bar on the iPhone, it may even be
partly interactive.

He also found information that suggests a new feature
of "tap to wake", which is present on some
smartphones and allows you towake up the screen by performing two
tapping
. This could be an alternative to the disappearance of
bouton Home.

Moreover concerning the latter, the HomePod OS includes a reference to the
"Home Indicator" or virtual Home button which would be located in
a functional area with other controls. This area could
disappear temporarilywhen you need the whole screen
for apps or videos.

Finally, last discovery, Steve Troughton-Smith affirms thatARKIt et
cameras
will have new features in
relationship with thefront cameraand onemanagement of the
depth of field
.
