Horace Dediu proposes
regularly very interesting studies onson blog Asymco. But just recently he shared
on Twitter a particularly interesting graph. He presents the prices
average of the different iPhones from the very first model of 2007 to the most recent (in
dollars).
This way of representing information shows a general trend that
was well noted, namely the increase in prices. Unless there is a change in
political, unlikely, this also gives an idea of the probable price of
l’iPhone 8.
In the graph below, each color represents an iPhone model
Several pieces of information should be noted. The first is that one year out of
the other, an iPhone model sees its price drop, when the new models
come out. That's why we see these stair steps. The second is
that Apple, from 2008 to 2017, regularly offered a device around
400-500 dollars.
The other remarkable variation obviously concerns theprix
maximum reached by each new iPhone. While he is at600
dollars and 2007, it practically reaches the1 000 dollars and
2017with the iPhone 7 Plus 256 GB version.
Remember, these are prices in dollars and without taxes.
With us, the most expensive iPhone, the 7 Plus in 256 GB, is already
displayed at a price higher than 1,100 euros,1 129
precisely.
What price for the next iPhone model?
For the future, this can suggest two things.
First of all, we anticipate an iPhone 8 particularly rich in new features,
particularly technical, compared to the current generation. We can thus
anticipate a
edge-to-edge OLED display, a new case with a new size
screen, the
wireless charging, new features linked to augmented reality such as
possibly the
laser sightor the
3D object recognitionand so many other things. Associated with the tendency to
the rise in average prices, the high end of 2017 could wellexceed
the symbolic bar of 1,000 dollars, as suggested by many
recent rumors.
What is certain is that if it is offered in different versions of
internal storage, the version with the largest spacewill exceed
certainly the 1,200 euros.
Furthermore, the iPhone 7s, expected alongside the iPhone 8, could
in its Plus version it also exceeds the symbolic bar (in the US) of 1,000
dollars and be displayed at a price of around 1150 euros with us.
