macOS Sequoia: which Macs are compatible with the next major OS update?

macOS 15 was presented at WWDC in June 2024 (summarized here). The new system for Mac will probably be available to everyone at the end of summer, or even at the beginning of fall. He will bringseveral major new features, including the new in-house AIApple Intelligence. But obviously, only compatible Macs will be able to benefit from it. As we did foriOS 18,iPadOS 18etwatchOS 11, let's see what is the list of machines compatible with macOS 15.

Which Macs can install macOS 15?

Here is the list of Macs that can install macOS Sequoia:

  • iMac from 2019 and newer
  • iMac Pro
  • Mac Pro 2019 and newer
  • Mac mini from 2018 and newer
  • MacBook Air from 2020 and newer
  • MacBook Pro from 2018 and newer
  • Mac Studio 2022 and newer
  • All new machines introduced after 2023

Aswe indicated it last year, macOS Ventura, released in 2022, was responsible for a real massacre. If Monterey (2021) could still equip Apple computers from 2016, 2015, 2014 and even 2013 (Mac Pro), Ventura set the limit at the year 2016. Thus, no Mac released this year, or before obviously, have was able to take advantage of the macOS update from 2 years ago.

In 2023, the drought continued. Some 2017 Macs failed to install macOS Ventura (MacBook Air, MacBook Pro, and iMac). Only one model from 2017 held out: the iMac Pro. We therefore imagined that this was the last year of support for this all-in-one for the professional world.

And yet this is not the case, the iMac Pro is still entitled to at least one more year of updates. On the other hand, the machine is on borrowed time. Just like Macs released in 2018, such as the MacBook Pro 13″ and 15″ mid-2018, as well as the MacBook Air 13″ and Mac mini late-2018. If your Apple computer is from 2019, you shouldn't be worried until 2025.
