iOS 12 post-release update

“Favicons” have existed for a long time on several browsers such as Chrome, Firefox and Microsoft. This is asmall iconwhich appears to the left of the website in the address bar. But until then, no Favicon on the home browser, Safari. But withiOS 12, the Apple firm has finally corrected this oddity. However, only the latest versions of iOS and macOS benefit from it.. It will therefore be necessaryto updateyour Mac running macOS Mojave (once the final version is available) and upgrade your iPhone or iPad to iOS 12 to see these Favicons in Safari.

Here is the detail on this new feature and how to activate the display of Favicons in Safari iPhone and iPad:

The functionality of Favicons is indeed notnot active by default.

To be able to view the thumbnails, you must go to the settings, then find the “Safari” entry, and activate the “Icons in tabs“.

After that, a small icon is displayed next to each page in the tab view on Safari. This can be useful for visually identifying a site when there are many tabs open.

The classic display, without the “Favicons”:

Once the parameter is activated, we obtain this display:

Favicons are also displayed on the view listing all open pages in Safari.

For the Mac, you will also need to activate the option in Safari preferences, by pressing the “tabs” section, then checking the “show site icons in tabs” option.

Better late than never for this feature which should help with management and visual recognition of tabs for all users.

Are you going to activate this display?
