iOS 16 should be released sometime in September. Not all iPhone and iPad users will be able to take advantage of the many new features that the update brings, unfortunately. SomeiPhoneetiPadare indeed too old to support the update. As for Apple smartphones and tablets included in the iOS/iPad 16 compatibility list, there are numerous changes. We have detailedmost of it in our columns. Recently, we also took stock of the contributions concerning thesecurityand those who touchSiri. In this article, let's take a look at everything that's changing for photography on iPhone and iPad, thanks to iOS 16 and iPadOS 16.
Camera
Portrait mode
Portrait mode is a feature that was already available before iOS 16, allowing you to blur the background when capturing a face or other object that stands out singularly in the foreground. Thanks to the LiDAR of the iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max, this is even very successful at night.
With iOS 16, Portrait mode has a little new feature: the ability toblur the foreground, something previously impossible. But be careful, because only a few iPhone models are eligible. These are the iPhone 13, iPhone 13 mini, iPhone 13 Pro, iPhone 13 Pro Max and editions subsequently released as the third generation iPhone SE.
Translation
Another new feature in the Camera app with iOS 16: thereal-time translation. To do this:
- bring your photo sensor closer to the text to be translated (be careful, this works much better on a flat surface)
- tap the text selection icon located at the bottom right of the screen
- select the text to translate
- a menu appears on the screen: touchTranslate

Shared albums
This is perhaps a good reason to leave Google Photos for Photos on iOS 16. The developer has reserved for us a new feature also available from Alphabet's competition, which allows you to create a shared album with whoever you want. For the moment, however, it is not possible to chooseonly five peoplepar album maximum.
Each Internet user with whom you share the album must also be a user of the Photos app. When they access your photos, they then have the possibility of editing them, adding their own images to the album or even deleting certain photos.
Copy editing settings
iOS 16 now allows you tocopy the editing settings (made via the menuModifier) from one photo to another. Here is an example:
- open the Photos app
- long press on a photo that you have already edited
- touchCopy changes
- perform a long press on the photo where you want to apply these same modifications
- touchPaste changes

- touchAllow pasting
A bubble will then appear superimposed to tell you that the collage has been taken into account.
Please note that when you apply this or that adjustment to a photo, another new feature in iOS 16 also allows you toundo your changesin case of error. To do this, simply touchReturn to originalafter a long press on the photo concerned.
Duplicate management
Photos with iOS 16 automatically groups duplicate photos together, so you can then merge them more easily. If you use Burst mode, this new feature will clearly be welcome. Same if you have not opted foran iCloud+ subscriptionand your storage capacity is therefore relatively limited.
Smart clipping
Since automatic clipping tools are very successful, Apple took inspiration from them by including this new feature directly in the Photos app on iOS 16. All you have to do is:capture a photo with a foreground and a background, then detach the object of your choicethanks to the dedicated tool. Here's a quick tutorial to understand how it works:
- open the Photos app
- open a photo where a subject to be cut out is in the foreground, clearly distinct from the background
- perform a long press on the object in the foreground, it will then appear highlighted
- touchCopierorShareto then send the clipped element wherever you want
