Update: last day promo code -30% this Tuesday, February 5!

If there is one component of the smartphone that has not evolved much in recent years, it is the battery. This while all the other components are more and more sophisticated and energy-intensive, which over the years leads to a situation that is often stable, sometimes improved (seeiPhone XR), at worst to degraded autonomy…

For this, the solution involves external batteries allowing you to recharge your smartphone or tablet anywhere. But generally these batteries do not recharge device very quickly.

This is not the case of the20100 mAh batteriesfrom Ravpower, equipped withl’USB-PD(for Power Delivery) in the recent USB-C format, allowingquickly recharge your iPhone or iPad, as well as aMacBook Pro!

  • It is for salehere on the French Amazon storeand promo codeRPPB159Aallows you to have a 30% reduction (until February 5), i.e. a price of€46.2 instead of 65.99

After several weeks of use, here is a review of details, photos and our opinion on this battery which aims to quickly revive our mobile devices:

Description

The battery isrectangular shapeand coated in black plastic that doesn't look cheap.

The dimensions are16 cm in length, 7.8 cm in width, and 2.3 cm in thickness. It can easily be stored in a shoulder bag or even a handbag.

This is the same type of battery as the iPhone except that capacity requires, it weighs400 grammes, it's important but not vital because you don't walk around with it in your hand.

It is supplied witha carrying pouch, which protects it from bumps and scratches from other objects in the bag. This small bag also includes a pocket to store the cables that come with it.

The battery is supplied withtwo cables:andUSB-C to USB-C cable(for a recent MacBook for example) and aUSB-A to micro-USB cable.

It is therefore necessary to use a lightning cable (not included) to recharge the battery. For example, the one supplied with the iPhone or better the iPad.

The battery offers3 socketsdifferent:

  • Theport USB-Cprovides power up to45 W for a MacBook Pro, or30 W for an iPad Pro. This socket can also be used to recharge an iPhone or iPad lightning via a specific USB-C <-> Lightning cable (Apple sells them, some are arriving on the market, MFi certified by Apple).
  • Aprise USB-A(the historical “classic” USB port) can provide power of12 Wto quickly charge an iPhone via a standard lightning cable, or an iPad.
  • Finally the thirdmicro-USB port is only for battery charging.

To find out how much capacity is left in the battery,a buttonallows you to lighta visual indicatorcomposed of 4 blue lights. They indicate the current battery percentage (in steps of 25, 50, 75, and 100%).

Utilisation

The battery was tested with an iPhone X, an 11-inch iPad Pro 2018, and a 15-inch MacBook Pro. During these uses, the iPhone charged as quickly as if it were plugged inon a 12W iPad Pro charger. So much faster than with the 5 W charger supplied with the iPhone. We benefit from the power of the USB-A socket.

For the iPad Pro 2018, this RavPower battery recharges completelyfaster than with the 18 W chargerof the iPad Pro.

Here are the figures obtainedwith batteryfor charging the iPad Pro:

  • After 30 mins:48 to 75%(16 to 51% in a 2nd test), i.e. a gain of approximately 30 points
  • After 1 hour: 90%

For comparison, chargingwith the 18 W chargerfrom the iPad Pro:

  • After 30 mins:15 to 38% (21 to 43% in a 2nd test), i.e. a gain of approximately 20 points

If this battery can charge the iPad Pro faster than the wall charger, it is linked to the support of themode USB Power Delivery, also called USB-PD. This increasingly widespread standard makes it possible to deliver increased power, i.e. 30 W for the iPad.

When it comes to recharging the MacBook Pro, the battery provides45 W power, sufficient to recharge aMacBook Pro 13 and 15 incheswhatever the tasks.

Please note, however, that thischarging at 45 W is only ensured, if there is nothing else chargingin parallel via the USB-A port.

As for the battery itself, it is recharged either via theUSB-C port at 30W in 3.5 hours(recommended), or via themicro-USB port in 6 hours, provided you use an 18W QC wall charger.

The battery capacity of 20,100 mAh can recharge an iPhone X or iPhone 8 Plus approximately 3 to 4 times, and an iPad Air 1.3 times.

RavPower 22,000 mAh PD battery review

In use, this battery provides a plus for thepower and therefore the proposed charging speed. It allows you to recharge an iPhone or iPad very quickly, more than with the charger provided for each device!

Better yet, it can also be used for your Mac when the need arises. No more searching for a nearby electrical outlet. It is therefore equipped with the latest technologies in terms of charging, one of the first of its type to offer fast charging thanks to support for USB-PD mode. Thanks to this input/output socket, it also recharges very quickly for its maximum capacity (with USB-C charger), very practical!
