Flash promo – Test: Elago W5 support, the Apple Watch becomes Game Boy with a retro charging support!

Updated Feb 6 : the Apple Watch charging stand with Gameboy design tested below isflash promotion at €13.6 instead of €18 until 10:45 p.m.

Elago is not an unknown accessories manufacturer, far from it! Indeed, in addition toaccessories for AirPodsthe brand specializes inApple Watch charging stands with original design. As proof, we want the adorable style supportMacintoshwhatwe saw it tested here a few months ago, this is theElago W3 sold there. Then, it's another support, this time borrowing from the design of tangy Macs, referenced W4 which was released(it is on sale this Sunday January 27 at 11.9 instead of 14). And very recently, abandoning the vintage Apple, it is a video game icon who gave its shape to thenew W5 support.
It is indeed the consoleGameboy!

We've been able to test it for several days now, so it's time to share photos and reviews!

The product is just as compact as the previous ones, delivered in packaging that leaves no doubt about the contents:

A piece of cardboard is slipped into the area corresponding to the screen, giving a complete GameBoy effect, even in the absence of the watch, so keep it!

The touch is similar to the previous supports, it is arelatively soft rubber, nice size compared to the Mac support. The whole thing is rather massive, thick and exudes the density necessary for good support.

When you look closely, the details and finishes are there: from the directional cross on the front to the red buttons without forgetting the start-up buttons or the cutout on the lower right side. No doubt the connection with the first mobile console is there!

On the back, we find a worked design:

The care taken in the reconstruction is simply impressive, to the point that one wonders if Nintendo might not take offense at such a resemblance one day.

But let’s move on to setting it up and using it!

The support is made with cutouts that allow you to insert the cable and the Apple Watch charging roller.

This is done easily andmagnetic roller is perfectly held in placewhile on the back, a welcome little notch allows you to trap the cable, like a mouse tail coming out of the vertically placed console.

Passive support has now becomecharging stand, ready to accommodate the Apple Watch.

This slides into the notch provided on the upper part. Tested with an Apple Watch series 4, it falls perfectly into place, the screen of this then becoming the screen of the mini console.

Realistic effect guaranteed, especially when it lights up green on a black background to display the time in recharge mode!

Compatibility is announced general, namely all Apple Watch series from the first to the very recent, in 38, 40 or 42 mm.

We note the excellent stability of the whole, linked to the weight and density of the support felt when unpacking.

Here is the black version:

In the end, the opinion is more than positive! We are won over by an aesthetic rendering that represents a real step back in time to the first portable console. The support and charging function is also perfectly assured, providing stability and display in wake-up mode. No doubt, Elago has been able to recreate an object that will bring back memories to many players and attracts the eye and the hand in an irrepressible way, whether it is placed on a bedside table or a desk, guaranteed effect! A superb gift to give or treat yourself.
