A few weeks ago, we discovered the iPhone XS/XS Max Rhinoshield cases together, with theiradapter for lenses. The principle is attractive: offeringvaried and modular hulls, as well as asmall adapter for attaching macro and wide angle lenses.
The range of protectionsview for iPhone XS/ XS Max recently hereis nowextended to iPhone XR, and the lens attachment mechanism has also been improved, whiletwo new lenses are now available.

We were able to test the modelsSolidSuitetMod NX, to discover in the image below, before looking at thenew optics of the brand, with test photos!
La coque Rhinoshield Mod NX (iPhone XR)
Beyond the resistance to shocks and falls, this range of cases rated “NX” has the specificity of offering atotally modular appearance. Thus, it is possible to use it as a simple “Bumper” (side protection) or in a “classic shell” version, which also protects the rear with plates with patterns or aspects of your choice.
We also note that thedifferent buttons can be customized, via the purchase of a bag containing numerous color sets.
Multiple possibilities for a hull that transforms, assembles and modifies... Lego style. These cases are available for the new iPhone XS, Xs Max but also for other smartphones including iPhones from 7 and for the iPhone XR.
It is this latest version that we will find in photos below, with the NX shell in black with transparent back plate, which allows the colorful appearance of the XR to be retained:
This case is rigid and well adjusted, so it holds well once in place. On the other hand, the corollary is that you have to force it to put it on and that removing it also requires a little effort. This means that it is not intended for someone who would change it regularly, depending on their mood.
The cutouts are precise, burr-free and perfectly adjusted whether for the speaker, the lighting socket (wide enough to allow charging cables to pass through) or for the vibrator switch.
And here is the same shell but without the transparent rear plate, in Bumper version:
Like the following hull, it can receive asmall adapteroptional to acceptbrand lenses.
You should know that sinceour test this summer, ofall new lenses and mounts(even more practical) are available. We talk about it below!
La coque Rhinoshield SolidSuit (iPhone XR)
Like the previous model, this protection is available for almost all iPhone models, including the iPhone XR.
The solidSuit is less modular than the Mod NX since it is presentedin one piece, knowing nevertheless that the choice of back patterns and colors is vast. It nevertheless accepts the change of the buttons to add a touch of color or originality as well as the lens adapter.
Here are photos of the Rhinoshield SolidSuit case for iPhone XR, in a “carbon fiber” design model. Find other versions (leather look, smooth look) in photos inour test of the iPhone XR and XS/Max modelswhile there are even some with a wood look!
Again, the same lens adapter can fit:
As mentioned previously, Rhinoshield sells a very small accessory in metal and plastic, which is housed in the hole in the shell intended for the photo lens:
Each iPhone model has its specificities in photo cell size but also in location, it is this adapter which allows it to be adapted to the case and then allows the use of standardized lenses. The economic interest for the user is major:when you change your iPhone, simply re-equip yourself with just a case and the corresponding adapterto be able toreuse your favorite lenses. Other solutions generally require you to buy everything again each time you change the machine…
• The adapter is sold for 5.99 euros: you must choose the one corresponding to your iPhone model
As for thegoals, the new range has been reduced, going from three lens models to 2, both offeringmacro + grand angle.
But that's not all, in fact, the fixing mechanism has changed. While the previous models were screwed on, it is even quicker to add a lens, because a so-called bayonet attachment is used.
The old adapter (screw), with the new one in the background:
The lens has the metal part which clips onto the adapter:
A simple quarter turn allows you to add optics to your iPhone: this is a particularly welcome change for those who are juggling between wide angle and standard mode when shooting.
The new adapter is available for many smartphone models including the iPhone X, XS, XS Max (it's the same) or XR:
The lenses are supplied with protections for the optical parts, as well as a storage pouch:
Here the two models, the largest is the “version2-en-1 4K HD grand angle + macro 0,62X” sold for €65 with adapter, the smallest is the “2-in-1 wide-angle + 0.6X macro model” for 30 euros with adapter:
Here are some shots to see the effect produced by these lenses.
Knowing that both models offer bothyou grand angle(practical for indoor photos, to widen the field, or for larger landscapes, and more immersive videos) and by unscrewing part,a macro mode(to take very close, large format), press to enlarge:
The standard iPhone XR photo, without additional lens:
The version with 4K HD wide angle lens + 0.62X macro:
The version with 2-in-1 wide-angle + 0.6X macro lens:
The last lens is the one that givesthe widest angle, at the cost of a necessarily greater deformation.
Another test, closer this time
The photo without a lens:
The version with 2-in-1 wide-angle + 0.62X macro lens:
The version with 4K HD wide angle lens + 0.6X macro:
These lenses also allow macro photography by unscrewing the upper part, here is the result:
Our opinion on Rhinoshield iPhone cases and lenses
In the end, we retain with the range of hulls offered, both thevariety of protection solutions, some modular, endless customization possibilities, notably by changing buttons.
During our tests, the optics appear to be of good quality both in terms of materials (metal + glass) and in terms of rendering. The loss of sharpness is not very noticeable in the corners of the shots with the is the difficulty with the wide angle.
But it is also theultra-practical aspect of being able to put on and take off lenses in a jiffy(we didn't think that the previous system could be further improved, it is!) which is attractive.
Practical for videos as well as photos, the range offered is a real success. Better yet, changing your iPhone does not require purchasing lenses, just a case and the adapter. Economical, efficient and high quality, a solution appreciated by the editorial staff!
